First Aid Kit

Postby GRMPer » Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:16 am

Where do the 99/900 folks typically mount their first aid kits?

(sorry if I'm adding too many new topics...)

new topics are good, easier to find relevant information later. Much better than 18 page topics that go totally off on a tangent.

My first aid kit is behind the drivers seat. Probably not the best place, but it was vacant space that needed something in it.

I was thinking somewhere back there...just wondering how easy it would be to squeeze between the seats to get it.

I bungied mine to the roll bar leg going back from the main hoop so it can be seen from the outside and reached from the inside.

The one in geoff's car is back with the spare tire and tools in the trunk. very easy to get to. I carry my first aid kit in my camel back backpack....but I am on a bike...which has no trunk.

Always make sure you have extra bungies that what seems neccessary.... otherwise the Bungie Nazi will get you.

My first tech went like this:

Bungie Nazi: You need more bungies on your triangles
Me: But pull on them, they are really secure
Bungie Nazi: You need more bungies
Me: Ok we will add some
Bungie Nazi: YOU WILL ADD SOME NOW!

I've got bungies and ratchet straps...I'm basically not bolting the spare tire down, just crossed ratchet straps to keep it in its hole. Same for the jack/toolkit. bungies for everyone!

the first aid kit I have actually has little tabs so it can get bolted down..of course, it needs a flat surface to do so.

I put mine in the trunk because if we've got 'Pa taket' Mongo can just punch through and grab it if I need it. And if Mongo needs it, well then screw him!

Geoff to first co-driver with brand new first aid kit in hand: "Look what I got for you!"
Chris: "I like how you put that, 'got for you'. Great."

I actually considered attaching mine to the underside of the roof behind the main hoop. that way, when we *are* upside down, we could just reach down and grab stuff.

Hey remember that time we had to get the rally car on that rickety little trailer at RallyNY that one year?

After we destroyed one from a box that he or someone else gave us.

Back on topic, the first aid kit should be wherever you can fit it and also easily access it. If you're stuck in the car and need the first aid kit, your #1 priority will probably be "get out of the car" so mounting it in the trunk should be AOK.

i remember that... we waited at germaina for the last car thru (you guys) ... and then we found you on the transit back with a broken dist cap... so i gave you the one off my car and said.... is the front motor mount broken? no? are you sure? and then you made it about 20 yards... hmm same problem.... then we drove (umm, maybe i shouldn't repeat the last part?)...

so some nice vw team gave me a distributor cap so i could drive home...
and loading the car on that trailer was sketchyy to say the least...

the rules state that the first aid kit must be mounted within the passenger compartment...I'm considering mounting it behind the seats in the rear seat footwells, on the 'hump' of the rear seat area, or possibly the RF inner fender down near the co-driver's feet.
