i put my orange rally car on the dyno before taking it apart.. 110 hp and 114 ft/lbs torque at the front wheels.. umm wow :)

oh and the car weighed in at 2875 lbs... dont forget to add in nearly 450 lbs of driver co-driver and you have a recipe for awesome acceleration everywhere!

its an H engine and that engine had some mss flat top pistons, mss cam (which one?), dual valve springs, aluminum flywheel, msd 6-al ignition box, rally gearbox, 4-2-1 mss header, 2.5" exhaust and dented to hell glass pack... it peaked at 6800 and fell like a safe from a tall building right after that... that was with a no lamda fuel distributor with the bigger air inlet, and a k&n filter.. the ports were matched but not polished... the cam was supposed to be good for over 8000 rpm but i broke too many lifter buckets with the limiter set at 8200, no problems at 7800... the stock 5 speed box needed the extra revs because the gearing wasn't so good, the rally box never really saw much over 7000 as the gearing was so much closer...

i never really played with the cis so have no idea what it could have done with decent fuel management...

oh and the engine is sitting on a pallet under a tarp, anyone want it?

Put out 115 at the wheels about five years ago. I was standing next to it and it was loud!!! He drove it to the dyno from home and you could hear him coming from a half mile away.

Improved Touring B VW guys are putting out 120+ at the wheels from 1.8 liters with stock cams and stock heads. They port match, have good valve jobs, balance everything and make sure the mixture/timing are spot on. I would think the 2.0 Saab could get close to that with decent tuning

Of course, slapping a turbo on it is probably cheaper in the short run.

thanks luke for that... the car was the loudest at the dyno shop they ever had, and they laughed at me when i signed the waiver and told them i hoped to break 100 hp at the wheels... oh and those stock wheels are so soft... i'd bend everyone of them i brought to a rally (usually 12-14) i wouldn't recommend using them, haha

100hp sounds right. my mildly build b-motah and my groo built H-mill had similar specs to this.

However, I would think that a 2.3 head, ITB, 16v with all the trimmings would have to pump out another 50hp to the wheels.

The next step would be a Djet manifold sporting a megasquirt fuel injection system

This 20% loss you mention, do mean 20% transmission loss?

I'd assume he means all parasitic losses from when the torque leaves the crank, most of which is drivetrain. I'd hope for about 125whp with the twin webbas , cam, header , exhaust and increase in static compression. Would those h-motor pistons work in a b-motor? I think so?

yes I mean all the power loss from everything and anything beyond the crank. 20% may even be on the low side as the saab transmission design and engine layout is not the most ideal for power transmission.

I think you may find you are going the wrong way, try 15% or to be even more accurate try, wheel figure plus 10,divide by 0.9. This should get you a ball park figure, assuming of course the dyno is reasonably accurate.

no you are wrong it is 19.4356 %

Edit:
of course that is at sea level, 72 degree fahrenheit and 58% relative humidity.

I dunno who cares about numbers really. When people ask me how much power my car makes I prefer to quote the numbers in BFP.. (butterfly power) It sounds much more impressive that way.

Person: How much power does that make:
Me: 9048 BFP
Person: Dayum!
