99 Motor Mounts

Postby Swedepilot » Sun Mar 09, 2008 1:34 pm

I have a 1978 99 (2.0L). I am looking for replacement engine mounts; front, left and right. Does anyone have any ideas on where I can find some?

Cheers!

Hockey pucks work good if you dont mind a slight increase in vibration and you can get a bag of 12 for about $10. Just drill a hole through the center and get a long grade 8 bolt or metric equivalent (for strength). 2 per side. If you want stock I don't know of any place off hand. I have actually never had a 99 with bad motor mounts but perhaps I have been lucky. I have had 99's with motor mounts that were not tightened down properly and mimicked a bad motor mount.

The other option is that you could switch over to the early 900 barrel style motor mounts (pre hydraulic). You will have to switch to the 900 style brackets off of an 8v and you will have to drill the holes in the body for the 2 bolts on the 900 mount but they should work fine....Airsweden on here did this for a 16v install he did on his 1980 99.

There is a mount for a mid 80's BMW that is an identical replacement and works great. I'll see if I can dig up the part number.

I think these are them...

I think the only difference is that the 99 ones have little square tabs ... I'm not sure if they serve a purpose or are just left over from the mold...but these ones still operate just fine I hear.

I would like to find a front mount, or fabricate something a little more rigid for competition purposes.

Interesting. I think that's kinda funny: new-school German aftermarket parts from Vorshlag in old-school crusty Saab 99s. 8)

so if i do the hockey puck trick on my 99, will it rattle all the bolts in the car loose, or just most of them? sounds like a good alternative to the squishy stock ones.

I have the stock front, and the stock left motor mounts and the hockey pucks on the right. I thought my mounts were shot but then I found that whomever had had the engine out in the past had not tightened any of them down and the motor was rocking. However I had one out before I realized this. So I have pucks in there now. There is a slight increase in vibration but not so bad. I am not vibrating bolts out left and right...not yet at least.

Plus then you can say you have factory works parts in your car :D

Adding stiff motor mounts really isn't that much of a difference in vibration. I've forgotten that I had them in a car once. Even my car with solid aluminum motor mounts isn't that bad

ha the solid aluminum ones are not that bad if your car is still fairly stock with all the interior and carpet and sound deadening. If you have a rally car the solid mounts are great for racing but will vibrate the meniscus out of your joints.
