It was probably talking about the early triumph motor. It makes sense that an english motor in those days would not have metric threads tapped into the block... but all the saab motors from 72 one did as far as I'm aware and have ever seen.

That makes more sense. Engine is in and just about everything is hooked up.....and full of fluids...couple of things need to be fixed before it runs:

redo RH engine mount so it works with header

replace o-ring in oil pump (a now clean engine highlights exactly where things were leaking!)

replace axle seal....must have popped it when the diff went in.

pics on website.

I'm so close to hearing it run, I can taste it!

The Haynes manual is pretty good for getting a little more height from your jack stand or propping the garage door open, that's about it. The Bentley series (is there one for a 99?) is pretty good though.

Why did you take the front springs out? fyi, there are duplicate images on the GRM post.

Three theories:

1: He took them out to plate the upper a-arms
2: He took them out to put in shorter stiffer ones for Tennessee
3: He got confused

fixed the second image, thanks!

I use the Haynes as a good overview...you'd be surprised how many "forest" type of answers it gives when the factory manual concentrates on the "trees"

springs came out because of plating the upper arms, painting engine compartment, etc.
OH, and the engine ran last night...just for a bit. still need to get timing/idle right and it was late so the exhaust rumble coming off the header wasn't so neighbor-friendly, although there was an epically bad band playing at a nearby restaurant, so I was happy to at least disturb them a bit.

I would say yes but having never been a co-driver and having always been a cro-magnon........... you might do better to keep looking.

hmmmm. bike/car/bike/car....I'll think on it. I wasn't planning on running Tennessee due to the need of a leather suit and not having much luck of finding one.....working on some other possibilities. I'll let you know asap.

Per,

It occured to me, and maybe you already know this, but you'll have to carve out the bottom of the shifter housing (the plastic part) to be able to get into 5th gear.

No in all seriousness, you have a couple options. You can modify yours by removing a chunk of plastic where the "gate" to 5th gear is. Or you can go to a junkyard and pull the plastic bottom out of a 5 speed which is set up to work with a 5 speed, duh.

Ok, I'll head to the junkyard (like I need an excuse)

I might be able to be coerced if Mongo isn't in.
