I've put about 50 miles on the new engine. Each trip has brought out fewer leaks and now I'm just seeing a bit of residue around the RH axle seal....so I'm ok for now (crossing fingers) Compression test shows about 195 on all four cylinders, all within 2 psi of each other. The engine feels like it's got both more torque and more horsepower than before (we were at 130-150 psi) and it revs really well.
So...that's all good.
Issues now:
I need a dipstick and tube for the transmission. I've rigged up a rubber hose that's long enough to keep the fluid in there...but....
I'm regretting the Vorshlag engine mounts--wicked buzzy--ordered new OE BMW mounts. Vorshlag mounts are essentially solid, as they have bolt that runs through the center. Much better suited for our 6-cyl Spec E30, as that engine is inherently smoother.
exhaust is misaligned and needs some more work and a new hanger near the header.
Once the new engine mounts are in, I need to realign the shifter, and do away with that rubber coupler.
My fingers and hands look like I've been playing with an ocelot. My paws don't fit well down behind that header with gloves on.

Not totally sure what you are looking for, but I have one of those. A bunch of people bought em from me because of the C-900 header group buy. The long factory dip-stick (79-89) does not fit with a header so the small dip stick must be used.

Per,
There was a part you could buy from SAAB a long time ago that adapted the large threaded filler/dipstick on the tranny to use the earlier small dipstick tube. Dealers would install this part when installing a new transmission in an '82 or earlier car (all pre 82 cars used the cam cover for the filler) I don't know if its still available.

900 speedo cables are shorter than 99 cables so I don't know if you'll be able to get it to reach. Also the 99 cable threads onto the back of the speedo, the 900 one sort of clips in place. I think a 900 speedo would fit in, so if you could get the 900 cable to fit you could probably substitute a 900 speedo as well.
The kind of dirty that doesn't wash off
