Well, this is what startlogic said a week ago:

"We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. I have checked your forum site ‘http://saabrally.com/forums/’ and its loading fine without any delay. Could you please try to access the forum site from your end?

However, our engineers are in the process of implementing a solution regarding MySQL performance and that it should be completely implemented within 2 weeks. Your Web site should work fine once this has been executed. We once again apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you."

Soo... one more week, according to them... :dunno:

It's definitely been better more recently for me than a week or so ago. There are still times when it hangs and kicks me out, but it's becoming less frequent.

Over the last few weeks I found I could not access any of the pages on a couple of events and was slow to load pages other times.

Seems fine today.

After repeating to startlogic that the site still does not work properly, they responded with this:

We have checked your websitehttp://saabrally.com/forums/ in different computers under different networks. Currently your website seems to be loading normally within and out side our network. We are unable to locate any delay in your website while loading. Can you please try to access your website once again?

There are couple of reasons customers site was down. The way that customers site is served has fundamentally changed--rather than single IP address and a single server, there's now a single IP address (the load balancer ) which shuffles the request off to one of any five servers (whichever has the least load). However, since we're on a shared hosting, the server resources are shared by all the users, which means if couple of user's badly written code requires more resources, it may make the particular server slow in repsonding for other requests. One thing to note is, the problem only affects one machine in the pool. Since the load balancing is sticky for an IP address - you might see the error message until it goes away, but a majority of visitors are seeing a working site. We've got newly installed monitoring system to detect and fix/restart the server that is causing slowness and we're trying to improve the accuracy of this trying to detect the customer's applications that take more resources and notify them.

One again, :dunno: . We'll see how it acts this week.

This forum is slower than a 71 99 towing a Winnebago.

Yeah, something's not right. I don't have a rocketship DSL connection, but this is by far the slowest loading site I frequent.

I know something is not right, but there isn't much Jordan and I can do other then move the site to another webserver, which isn't our call anyway.

the free forums I use for junkyarding.com are not fast, but they are about 5X faster than this usually is, and free... Might not be a bad idea to switch them over to get the site functional, at least temporarily.

The problem isn't that we've always had slow servers, they used to be fine.
Stupid Starlogic is a bunch of ninnies who obviously don't know shit about shit.
I suppose in a week we'll still have slow service and then have them tell us it's been looked at and appears to be fine but they'll look at it again for the fifth time. Then they'll tell us they have people who monitor this stuff and are really good at their job and stuff but really it'll all be a bunch of smoke up our ass.

Well if it's not fixed by the end of this week, I'm going to have to go and harass them again.

Seems to be marginally faster at present.
Not "back to normal" though
