It seems that the new 9-5 is getting a hatchback. I was ready to hate this car for being a badge engineered buick, and now they throw us a curve ball.

I cant see the hatch back behind the red X
This does look like a hatch though. I don't know why SAAB ever dropped the hatch backs, The 5 door hatch is the most useful body style ever. I hope that they actualy get a chance to build a few.

Re: Hatchback is back?
GM is now saying "oh wait mayyyyybe we won't drop saab after all..." but some think it could be a ploy to drum up excitement over the new 9-5 before they sell the company to someone. They shouldn't have dropped the hatch, because in a market where people are going "I can have a saab, or a bmw, mercedes, or lexus" they're going to pick one of the others, so the saab might as well have something that makes it interesting, like a saab should be.

Now I have read that it isn't a real hatch, although some of those photos seem to have the hatch lines taped over with cardboard. Who knows, at least its lamost a hatchback.

Re: Hatchback is back?
It had better be a hatch because if it isn't that trunk looks difficult to get anything into, especially considering the width between the tail lights.
The whole back end looks like a new BMW (ugly), hopefully it looks better once all the checkerboards are removed. I want to see the wagon.

The kind of dirty that doesn't wash off
