I was thinking that I took those photos but I don't think I ever scanned the ones I took.
I don't remember much about the gearbox... it was 9 years ago!
What I do remember:
- Webers with custom intake manifold for the head
- Peter Bakstrom was very excited about it, though he used starter fluid to get it running :-)
- Belt driven cams
- Dual masters, no booster
- H engine distributor
- Peter did say the car was re-shelled after a roll
- Period cage and other internal bits
- Sounded great

After the car was shipped off I was at the training center in CT and John Moss showed a bunch of us the spare gearbox that came with the car. I think he was rebuilding it and cleaning it up to go to the museum. I seem to remember there being a spare 16V head too.
All of this could have been yours for Buffum's asking price of... I think it was $10K. Back then the cage would have been legal to run too :-)

I am wondering if they didnt just save the motor from this car and junk the shell... I've seen lots of pictures from the museum and never seen this car pictured. Since it was reshelled maybe its "lineage was tainted"

I would have been so cool to have been able to keep that thing out on the stages.

Some say The Stig gets a marriage proposal before each rally. If one is not available it is the duty of The Stig's co-driver.

The picture of the crunched 96 is pretty scary!
