My 99 has similar chrome-esque trim under the windows. Figured that was natural but perhaps it was custom.

Your 99 should have chrome trim around the whole windows, right?
They became black on the 900, but only on the turbos at first i think. My half chrome trim is custom by me though. Trim on the door is stock from a 900c.

the car looks great...i had a set of those 5 spoke wheels on one of my 900's kinda hard to find would love to horde another set should i stumble across some...flat nose+louvers+rare wheels+black...what else is there

I just converted the wiring on my 89t sedan this past weekend. I remember thinking the same thing. I have been meaning to check my 86 that had these lights from the factory. I could get them to come on with the turn signals, (non flashing cornering light) but I could not get it to work with the parking lights. There is a dual filament bulb in there, but I could not find a way to power the extra filament.
I thought about replacing the cornering bulbs in the ones on my 86 with a set of H3 55watt fog light bulbs the same way as I did with the parking lights next to the grille.
I will check my 86 tonight. It is possible I missed something when splicing the wires from the 89 harness to the early lights
