Thought I recognized that ducktail. Always thought it looked funny on the hatch - I really like how it looks on your notch tho. Where did you score your fender flares?

The fender flares are pore quality, bought from a local rallycross-driver. Will try to reinforce them this winter (they are really thin now). I have widened the rear ones, they were too narrow.

I think RPGlasfiber in Sweden sells better ones, they even have wider (+15mm and maybe even +30mm).

I've heard the Rpglasfiber ones are pretty expensive. Dennis also used to make them for guys on this forum, but he seems to not want to do it anymore. Gotta be a set somewhere.

I still want a few sets, But it's pretty ridiculous to spend 1,500 bucks on fender flares.

I really want to try a set of the tuner style flares that are all over ebay for less than 200 bucks shipped to the door. If I can find someone who has a set, I would love to hold them up to the side of the car to see if they could work.

Spending 700 bucks to put flares on a 2,000.00 car is not much different than those idiots that put 4,000 dollars worth of chrome spinning rims on a 75 Buick Park Avenue 4 door sedan.

I still think the solution is thermoforming them out of HDPE.

I'm of the same mindset - $700 flares on a $1000 car is pretty hard to justify. Especially when it's not a necessary part. That said, I have seen how much goes into the process, so not to poop all over Dennis or his excellent work. I guess it would be a lot easier if it were a DIY and we could make them ourselves.

Dennis has always been known for going above and beyond with quality. I have several parts/tools/products that he has put out there. Really nice stuff.

I am just a bit of a cheap ass.

You can't tell me your 80 900 has only 1000 bucks into the whole car. I'm sure the prep and paint was more than that? I really wish I could make and sell the flares for what I was originally shooting for at 75 a corner, but it is not in the cards with the time, materials and tooling. Try your DIY. Swedesport has been thinking about it for years. The problem is pulling the trigger to pony up the cash and the time to do it right and not half baked. His front air dam is awesome, but as a one off. Setting up for production as a motorsports part is a whole other game.

Yes, some of this stuff is totally non functional on a street car, but the bling, rockin, bad ass old skool factor is off the chart. For you attention whores, you know it is the shit.

Communicating with RP Glasfiber was frustrating.

I just want a flare option that is cheap enough to get me over the fear of putting them on a race car.

Fiberglass is hateful too. That's why I keep thinking vacuum formed plastic air dam and flares.

Mine are like one, maybe two layers of glassfibre. A slight rub caused a crack in the left front one. Paid about 30$ each.

I am also thinking about buying cheap universal flares, there's more space for wheels in them too. Problem is that they does'nt look like the Saab ones =\

You're right, Dennis -it was about $1000 for the car itself. Paint and other materials have more than doubled that, but it's been a budget project. Definitely happy with the result so far. I would relish the chance at $75 a corner, but I totally respect your decision and I know yours are high quality. If you ever change your mind or find a spare set laying around, let me know - I would be very interested.

You gotta get to the point where the money isn't the issue, but the ultimate goal is. I can understand if your wife is hounding you about every penny on the project, but if not, why not just go for it? If you can enjoy it for years it will be well worth it. If you're expecting to flip your car don't even bother to paint over the rust with a rattle can from fred meyer and just put it on craigslist already. :fuckyou:

.. pay for the quality squaab product and be happy! You know you want to. You'll never get all the money out of your car unless you drive it and enjoy it for years.
