SSR Steering wheel

Postby 87 n/a » Sat Jan 25, 2014 8:00 pm

So this wheel was brought by my home today. I thought I was getting one of the wheels from the Saab Accessory Catalog.
But instead, this is what I received.

Has SSR logo painted on front and on back it says Momo, Made in Italy 3-80
Sorry for crappy picture.
Have not seen this wheel before.
Anybody know anything about it?

I have one just like that.

Sport & Rally catalog item. The horn button is wrong. You are missing the horn pad, but I like it without the pad... Nice score!

I've had a few of those. Looks like its missing the center pad and someone stuck a newer logo on the horn button. But yeah it is a s&r wheel.

At least the leather is in nice shape on that one.

What is with the tapped holes on the left and right spokes?

No clue on the tapped holes. They are not threaded. I thought it might be nice to run LED signal lights tapped into my vintage K40 in-dash radar detector in the 88SPG.
The emblem has a large clear plastic flange that incorporates the 6 bolt holes from the wheel to the hub. That was what threw me off from the standard SSR wheels. Looks pretty clean and the guy who gave it to me said it was supposed to be a numbered limited edition wheel.

I have one of those - I really like that wheel. My 2nd favorite wheel of all time, only to the 70's S&R (moto-lita made) with the drilled holes and red stitching. As others said, the emblem is obviously not original to the wheel - since that logo hadn't been invented yet in 1980!

Dude, you must have ape arms to reach the wheel...

I have that momo model and horn button on my '78 99t. Run without the center pad. Cleaner in my opinion. If the horn did work and the center pad on place it would be really hard to honk it since the pad stick proud of the button.

I have the same wheel in my SPG. Horn pad optional.

I have the solid spoke Moto-Lita in FrankenSAAB.

The MOMOs seem to hold up better than the Moto-Litas
