SAAB's At Lemons in New Jersey

Postby gmreider » Mon May 11, 2015 6:42 am

Just a quick photo of the 2 SAAB's we ran this past weekend. The orange and black car is the eEuroparts car and the silver car is the Penna SAAB MAAB car. Both cars finished both races and had few issues. For our SAAB MAAB , this was our first event. We came with 11 miles on the trip odometer and came home with 699 miles on the car including practice day. We need to correct some minor things , but the car is no dog , by any means. A lot of other cars saw our rear end down the front straight and saw us coming after them in their mirrors. Speaking for me , I had a hell of a good time and am proud of my association with my team members and the guys with eEuroparts.

We keep showing others that SAAB not extinct yet !!

I had a blast, already looking forward to the next one. We did lose a lot of time due to technical issues, but we did have a good bit of time on track too. Intercooler pipework kept popping off initially, (eact time that happened we lost probably 3 laps) and that was right near the beginning of the race Un plugging the BPC fixed that till we were able to have Jordan knock the boost down to 1.0 bar for us, and I re-set the wastegate rod as the base setting was a bit too high as well. Then, at about 14PSI steady, it was running good.

Our biggest set-back was the loss of about 2 hours due to totally smoked metal on metal brake pads (Jason, picture?) Had to drive 20 miles to the nearest auto-parts store that actuallyl had them and install... Why none of us remembered spares is probably because we are hillclimbers, we don't need brakes, you go up... learned that lesson. Need better brakes in the future, as by the end of the race the brakes were just about done again. The 125 MPH front straight really gets brakes toasty toasty!

Maybe time to install the old school 8v turbo setup with the mechanical connection turbo hoses and pipes.

once the boost was correct we had no further issues, however a physical connection on the TB to the 1st intake pipe might not be a bad idea.

You could also powder coat the intercooler pipes with the rough surface powder coat which grips the pipes really well

full metal stops pretty well...its just that the rotors tend to fall off a little faster

We tried the "Asbestos Free" pads...

They didn't stop very well.

A Fuego?? Who would ever think it would be a good idea to pick that for a cheap enduro race car? :dunno:

I like your cars.
