probably just an older car, my 73 has the same ones, they're weird, but they look less prone to falling off due to rust than the later ones.

B engine with a special 16v head that SAAB built for rallying. In order to homologate it they had to build ~200 but I don't know that they actually ever did. Most never even got machined after being cast.

I believe it was 225hp N/A as a 16v put in the 99 EMS (rally car), before they developed the turbo car... basically a race designed belt-driven twin-cam head by SS&R.

I seem to recall there being only 7 or so of those heads in the USA....who knows how many there are still in existence. One came up on E bay a while ago but the seller canceled the auction...its the same seller that puts Rare sport and rally bits on E bay and then cancels them before they ever sell.....my theory is the guy is showing off or checking to see if they will fetch millions....which they won't

Saab parts

Postby nkro » Sun Apr 06, 2008 9:09 am

Hallo from sweden

The picture of the parts an car are from Ã…ke.
A Saab freak from sweden.

The 16 V engine com from Erkii Teemes. The only private driver whit the 16 v engine.
If there Is 7 of this cylinderheads in the Us I dont know.
In sweden there are about 10 cylinderheads the museeum car included.

Probably the 200 not exist any more.

The car Is a rallycross car, built on a rally car. It could be the car that Stig Blomqvist drove. (not 100%)

The picture is on the rear axle that will fit porsche brakes.

The rear axle pic shows rear handbrake cables..but NOT porsche.. they may be alfa calipers.. i have already been through this excersise here in australia. as i own a genuine factory RHD 8valve 99EMS with calipers fitted to it,
Very interested to get a 16v head though,
Those 5spd gearsets non synchro...are they for sale??

Calipers

Postby nkro » Mon Apr 07, 2008 2:24 am

Yes the brakes are from porsche 914. And saab used them on the factory cars.

They are in the FIA pappers. But the the cable could be Saab V4.
What about the factory car. Any pictures.
Saab raced a 16v engine in Australia. Do you know anything about that.
Saab had probably a service set whit the 16 v car. So you should have 2 16 V cylinder heads in Australia.

hallo..

Postby saab99emsrallye » Tue Apr 08, 2008 5:26 pm

it was only made 100 cylinderheads , they meaning was to cast them at a company called wedaverken in södertälje but the had very much to do that summer so a small casting company in Arboga called Frids metall
was casting them the summer 1975 , a have spoken with the son of the owner ,,he remember that summer well because that was a moment to cast them..many cylinderhead became wrong because it was a complicated casting but 100 cylinderhead was made..
but a lot of them were not builded to engines about 30 engines was completed and about 15 engine still exist ..some people have castings that not been machined , i saw a set of parts on ebay for some years ago
but to complete and machine parts like that is at least 20 000 euros , and maby that is isnt enough ..to built a race engine today is not cheap..
its nice to see that my pictures have reached the states..*smile*
if somebody have more pictures of the car HXE 404 i should be very happy , i saw one here in this post that i havent seen before..
all teh best Ã…ke

Hej Ã…ke,
I know which car that is now. We have always called the works cars "The silver Boucles de Spa one" or "The black turbo" etc. Where does the designation HXE 404 come from? Maybe the registration or license plate?
