Hey, we (Jason, myself and my dad) might need some help in service at STPR. Rather, can I just have my dad tail your service crew so he knows where to go and set up?

I'd be happy to lend a hand (If Luke and Matt say I can play ). We should have a fairly large group there. I think we will be there Friday morning (only running Sat), When are you arriving?

We'll be there Thursday sometime. I better figure that out soon..I haven't even mapquested it yet.
I just need for my dad to have some resources if he gets confused/lost. It's his first rally, and I'm not sure if he thinks in that weird rally-type way. As for the car, unless something bad happens, it should be just check the oil/add gas, which we can take care of.

Just from past experiences we have learned it is always a good idea (unless it is a gas only service) that you once-over all suspension components and do an overall inspection at each service. We have warded off some catastrophic failures that way. I think in comparison, this is going to have some of the roughest terrain your 99 has seen.

Per there are going to be about 1500 of us there...i think that you guys will be alright. the west virginia faction of this group works on anything with a saabrally.com sticker on it....within reason.

Unless some of the new roads are different, the traditional STPR roads are about as smooth as gravel roads come. They are hard packed red clay with small aggregate. Suberb traction when dry... but like grease when wet!
The scariest thing about STPR is the trees... which are BIG and RIGHT THERE. Theres also some scary exposure in a few places.

Ok, cool. I'm going to be a puss anyway. The goal is to finish. Kim being 8 months pregnant has made me a little cautious.
edit: I think maybe I heard NEFR was the rough one. I thought Sandblast was actually quite rough from a rut standpoint, but at least it was soft. WV was rough, but not as bad as the horror stories.

I was comparing the sand traps and tarmac he has done from his previous rallies...and I think Luke by now has a warped sense of reality on what is "rough" . Unless I am thinking of another rally (which I often am) the trees and rocks are big. Not the roughest rally by far, but compared to what you were running on before it is more likely to shake something loose. Plus being more comfortable behind the wheel you might step up a couple of speed points .
Edit: You'll be fine... you probably have more safety equipment than the first astronauts (the human ones).

Yes, NEFR is rough. It used to be that 40% of the cars were out after the first day, which was only 2 or 3 stages.

There will be enough of us there to help, we almost always have extra people. We usually do a lot of sitting around at service during STPR anyway, due to the service schedule not allowing for a lot of spectating.

I will be there thursday in the white wagon with a saabrally stick on the side window. I should get there around 4-5PM thrusday. Per if you need any help thursday evening/friday morning let me know. If it would really help I could service with ya too though it sounds like Luke's team might be fairly avaiable.
