I thought that one was freaky too. Wonder if maybe the chopper you can see in the upper right corner is actually more or less level with the ground and that the pic was taken with the camera at about a 45 degree angle?
99 problems but a SAAB ain't 1

I think in dakar, everyone can be a badass, until you roll or get stuck.
I remember a video where a truck came over a dune launch like that and landed on a bike. No scene ever summed up dakar better for me than that one. the truck had no idea, of course.

Cresting dunes is a real trick. On the one hand you don't want to go over the top full throttle because the other side could be almost vertical. On the other hand if you don't carry enough speed to and over the top you will get stuck..usually high centered.

I remember watching some footage from one of the last "real" dakar rallies from a special stage that was in the SW corner of libia, It was nothing but dunes, but not giant ones like in these pics, the trucks were busting through a lot of them and they looked more like ships on rough seas than trucks in sand.
