RIP 9k Aero. What to harvest and transplant?

My 94 Aero has met it's match with failed bell housing gasket. It let go on the highway, draining transmission fluid like an arterial bleed.
It just doesn't make sense to put anymore money into the car, with my 99 project in the wings. I plan to do a t16v swap. The general idea is to have a modern daily classic for spirited driving.

So the question is what should I save from the 9k?
The brakes will be going over to the 88 900 hubs/axle I have already. Can the master cylinder be used? Is dual 99 cylinders preferred?
I also want to do trionic down the road. So what should I take for that?

Any other ideas are welcomed. I want the car to live on as much as possible.

If you're gonna use this for a T5 swap to a C900, then you want the T5 ECU, harness, and every sensor attached to the T5 harness.

Depending on your setup the stereo head unit and speakers might be a nice upgrade for your 900 too.

9K transmissions are easy as cake to replace, I'd just fix it if it were me... Can't you go down to your local U pull it and snag one for a hundo or so? is it in good condition and not too rusty? 9K's are getting to be hard to come by.

3 Vermont winters while I was in college took their toll. This is one of the worst rusted new gen 9ks I've ever seen. Wheel arches, rust. Door jams, rust. Windshield surround, rust.

Planning to use a period Blaupunkt radio with aux input on the 99.

Any other bits to upgrade a 99/900 from 94 9000 aero?

I think I'll save the AC system. Might be handy if I decide to put one in the 99.

If you put the 88+ hubs onto a 99, you will need the wheels to fit that bolt pattern.

My brother and I swapped one in his driveway (in SoCal weather though) in about 1:15, and I had two beers. The subframe is cleverly hinged so that is swings out of the way to make room for the gearbox so you don't have to drop the whole subframe out.

Changing trans in a 9-5 on the other hand IS a pain, because you do have to remove the whole subframe, and the subframe is what locates the heat exchanger stack and steering rack as well as the engine and suspension mounts.

Good to know...People were telling me a clutch job was 9 hours...

Yeah, add wheels to the keep list. Maybe calipers too if you like running with weights in your shoes. ;)

Drew, that makes me feel a little better about the potential for a clutch job in my '97 Aero. Maybe I'll hook the wastegate rod back up to the turbo. :lol:

I suppose you could save your seats for ultimate bling in a 99...

Chouan, where are you located? Let me know if you're parting your 9000, I may need a few things...

Yes, I was thinking about trying to cover the Aero seats in the style of the EMS/Turbo. Best of both worlds!?! I am a little worried they wont fit width wise in the 99. I'll cut the rails out of the 9k just in case.

People put the front seats into C900s. They're tight but C900s and 99s are the same width. They'd look pretty neat with the EMS/Turbo style seat covers!

Yeah, the Aero seated C900s were my inspiration. I figure I could get 900 seat frames (folding) and modify them to support the aero foam. Then upholster them to match the 99t interior.


DrewP, dont you have a TD04 from an 9k on a B202? Is this worthwhile to save from the Aero and move to my project engine? Do you have any description of your build?

Is there any use in saving the 2.3 head? Injectors? Anything else?

I do have a TD-04, but the turbine inlet flange is different (T25 instead of T3). My car has tube headers so I just welded the correct flange on, otherwise you either have to use an adapter or find a Mutsu turbine housing with the right flange. (Someone on here did it that way, don't remember who. I think it was from a Volvo.)

The injectors yes, the head you have to do some mods to use. Those are fairly well documented on threads here as well.
