All my 78 99 turbos have advance only on their distributors, I have a B-motor distributor, I THINK from an 80 900-Turbo, that has boost retard rather than just advance. Aside from obviously the base timing being very different between the 2, why did they switch? does anyone think it would be beneficial to add the vacuum retard function to the 78 99-t?
The one will tend to ping a bit once you have been at full throttle for over 30 seconds.

79- 99T's have the boost retard as well. I retrofitted mine. Didn't notice anything much :)

Well I stuck one on there, base timing 20 degrees @ 2000 RPM, with vac line un hooked & plugged.
Sound right? I know the UK spec cars say 23 degrees, but I still have working lambda control on this car... Woo hoo, 27 MPG highway

Not sure if it does or not, but replacing it with the boost retard unit, and re-timing it fixed all pinging issues. Can now hold full throttle on the highway for as long as you wish! Now... needs water injection and more boost!
