MSS Header for B Engine

Postby Jon1 » Sun Mar 24, 2013 4:14 pm

From Gerry Serlin (posted on Saabnet 99 board):

I have been in contact with Jack at MSS about a header for the B motor. He has agreed to build a one up for me in the $500.00 dollar range. He indicates it could be the end of the year before he gets to it. Bottom line is if anyone wants in they should call him at 716-665-4200 or email him at MSS9@windstream.net. he was not firm on the price and in the end I will pay whatever However, I really suspect this is the final run of these headers. Jack indicates his preference is to do 5 or 6 or more, not just 1, but I think I have his commitment irrespective of whether anyone else contacts him. I told him I would reach out to your members and I will probably do the same on the other site I think it's Saab Rally or something. Either-way Jack agreed to leave it open ended at least through July or so and see how many more express interest. I figured that you could pass this along to the members. Thanks Gerry Serlin.

Any interest to get additional units made?

I am interested in one or more headers. I hardly ever visit this site, maybe someone could keep me informed at info@saabworld.nl?

I spoke to Jack last summer sometime and he said they had several sets of the 16v Headers left.

do I understand it well that we are talking about 16v non-turbo headers for Saab 99?

Unfortunately no. The 16v headers he had were the non turbo units for a 900 not the 99.

I would imagine that if you are crafty enough, you might be able to modify or replace the secondaries, and or the collector pipe to fit a 99???

Maybe. The little passthru in the engine bay in the 99 where the exhaust has to go is in a different place then how the C900 has the exhaust drop down and go over the aluminum crossmember. On the 99 it goes underneath.

White is 99, green is 900. Not the best photos.

It would require a significant amount of work to modify a 16v 900 header to fit a 99. The 16v head takes up more of the engine bay and the 16v header exits the engine bay pretty much straight down where the 99 one comes forwards. You would basically be building a completely new set vs a few tweaks.

When the one I have for the 8v 900 NA rotted out @ the secondaries, I bought bent pieces from Jack and replaced them. I upgraded to the "race" version at the same time.

I would imagine it is a bunch of fab to do it, but not impossible.

It would be a lot of fab. It would be easier to just start off with a flange and start from scratch.

From Gerry Serlin (from Saabnet 99 BB):
Spoke with Jack today, he will not be able to get to B motor Header project before winter 2013-2014.

There is still time!

Any one ?

From Gerry Serlin (from Saabnet 99 BB):

Jack has finished my header. The price was very reasonable at $600.00. If any one wants in, pleas contact him. It was an ordeal for him to dig out all of those fixtures and jigs that were in storage. At one point he belived that he might not be able to locate all of the jigs required to complete this. I suspect he will not be willing to do it again. So its now or never.
