Fuel leak
Hey guys, the '80 900t is out of hibernation and I was hoping that a 5-month r&r would cause all the problems to disappear. Guess not. When i go around left-turn corners going uphill, fuel pours out of the gas filler area. Is there a flap or something inside the tank that should be keeping this from happening?

The 99's didnt have a flap in the gas filler and I don't think the early 900's did either. How full is your tank?

Re: Fuel leak
80 still had a metal tank I believe. They are baffled and have a flap but it doesn't work all that well.. Try a better gas cap seal.

I ran a plastic tank in one of my 99's and it came out of a 1979 or 80 900 5 door iirc.

Re: Fuel leak
80 was first year for plastic tank in both 99 and 900.
The 80 900 tank is only plastic tank that is a direct fit to 99 hatches.
Likewise the 80 99 tank fits all notchback 75-79.

Re: Fuel leak
So there is a flap in there that blocks back-flow? And if so, can it be made to work again, or is it inaccessible? I've been considering swapping in a different tank - I have a spare from a '93 900NA and a '87 900T. I would prefer the '93 because they deleted the rubber bushing for the overflow hose. But then, if that flap were working, maybe the bushings wouldn't disintegrate.

Re: Fuel leak
They changed the floor pan a bit since then...and the tanks in '93 are bigger, you might have trouble fitting it in there. But then again I might be remembering wrong again

Jordan correct, pop the deck floor up on your 80 and any later 900 and youll see the difference, theres a big bulge to accommodate the larger tank.

Re: Fuel leak
I'm glad I can still retain some relatively useless information in my old age. Was there a change in '79 too? or was it '81?

Re: Fuel leak
Just that the hatchbacks had the filler neck on the opposite side of the car to the notchbacks...at least for the 99's

Re: Fuel leak
... I wonder if I can take out the fuel pump and reach in there and un-stick the flap?
