Expect valves to float around 6000 rpm and up. You can get double valve springs to help eliminate....8000 is around the top that most people spin them when setup properly.

Re: redline for the stock 8v 900 heads
The bigger problem with the higher RPMs are cracking of the lifter buckets. I know DrewP suspected some float problems with his stock setup. With the modified springs and cam on my 8v B motor, I take it to 7.5k+.

thanks jordan
in reality I think if the 8v head came off the money would be spent on going to a 2.3 head
but I wanted to know. the 8v head really produces a different car, 16vs are very smooth in comparison .. the 8v feels a bit raw

Re: redline for the stock 8v 900 heads
I blew up a few stock heads before I put the modified head on mine.
If you can find them... MSS made hardened lifters. Mine has them. Dual springs, oiling mods, and a trick cam.
I have revved over 8k on a few occasions. But power drops off at 6.5k. I beat this motor harder than any other. And I have never broken a lifter.

So you mean a T5 head? Were the T5 2.0 and 2.3 heads different?

T5 and T7 heads didn't change between 2.0L and 2.3L engines, they're the same.

Re: redline for the stock 8v 900 heads
Sorry I designated 2.3 cos I am used to people getting confused between early 9k head same as on 2.1 c900 and trionic head.
I realise t5 head is easiest way to designate lol.
Yeah I was asking about my stock 8v head. But I'm going to go to t5 head. Think a fried has a spare I might buy or trade.
Won't be for a while though because it will need chains and all sorts of stuff.
