DOH! On my first day as a tech at an independent SAAB repair shop a car came in with a very similar failure.
R&P look hosed. Where they stock?

Re: Ouch!
I have seen this failure before. Happened in a strong running 87 900 turbo street car that I bought for $300 many years ago. I assumed it was due to a pinion bearing failure at a good speed, but I did not know this 1st hand.

Re: Ouch!
The crazy rally boxes from back in the day used a cradle that connected the two inner driver housings together and connected to the diff cover to try and stop this from happening. I don't know how successful it was or how often it was used.
